I have no words to adequately describe how I feel regarding the passing of Monica Roberts. I didn’t know Monica half as well as I would have liked (borrowing from Tolkien), but I did know that she was an amazingly kind, determined, and talented individual. Monica was one of the warmest, most kind people I’ve ever had the honor of interacting with. She always made me felt welcome and I looked up to her not just as an activist, but as a person.
Her passing is a huge loss to the city of Houston, and most of all the LGBTQ+ community. As an ally I feel immense grief. I can only guess at the pain that those closest to her are feeling.
May Monica Rest in Power with the ancestors.
May we all learn to be a little more like Monica in our endeavors.
